Humor, joy, celebration and elation are often touted as the antithesis of revolution. Despite a very pleasant quote from Emma Goldman, radicals are still viewed as being a long way from dancing. We disagree with this characterization. In fact, it is doing things for ourselves and our community – seeking to bring joy to those around us and better ourselves and our bonds with one another – is key to building a solid foundation for any social movement.
To this end, we have collectivized; not to lose ourselves in the struggle but to find ourselves in the hobby that we find so rewarding. We seek time to reflect on our labors. We seek reprieve from expectation and obligation. We seek the opportunity to develop. We seek spaces to express ourselves with authenticity and honesty. We seek to create a space where we may truly claim ownership of the fruits of our labor. We seek to set aside time to share ourselves with those close to us. We hope that you will join us.
On a schedule of varying stability, we will be gathering to explore our kitchens and create unique baked goods. Not because it is productive, but because we don’t care about it being productive. If we’re able to delight in something sweet, all the better. Regardless, we will still have the time we spend together. We will still work with our comrades. We will still benefit from kinship. We will use this site to pass along our lessons, our recipes, our mistakes and our thoughts. On our community. On politics. On whether it’s ok to be upset with a comrade for always using a dry measuring cup to portion out buttermilk even though there’s a liquid measuring cup right there.
